BlackBerry PlayBook Price Seems Ready to Slash Down
It is just 200,000 tablets of BlackBerry has been shipped in the last quarter, which is even less then the half that shipped the previous financial three month period. The thing that makes it more worse is that there are also Playbooks unsold at retailers.
On Thursday, RIM executive talking to analysts looks ready to slash the prices of the PlayBook. Brian Bidulka, the financial head of RIM put it in the usual Wall Street lingo: “In addition to the inventory on RIM’s balance sheet, there is inventory in the channel that we will work through with our partners to sell through over the coming months”. Translation : the price cuts are coming.
RIM’s Co-CEO Mike Lazaridls echoed that message. “RIM does plan promotions this fall including special incentives for companies and rebates for consumers“, the Wall Street Journal reported. According to the Journal, the lack of consumer interest has cost RIM $754 million since the start of the fiscal 2011.
At least RIM’s isn’t quite in HP’s position, where retailers wanted the dust-gathering TouchPad off their shelves.
RIM’s investor know the foreseeable future remains challenged. It looks like a miracle to turn around the the tablet efforts after the shipping of PlayBook by 200,000 units only.
